The Dalai Lama escaped from the Norbulingka Palace on the 17th of March around 9:30 pm. These photographs we have of his escape were only taken in the subsequent days of his escape when his entourage made contact with his escorts from the resistance force and with the two radio operators sent by the CIA. With them was the photographer Tsongon Jhanjup Jinpa, who took nearly all the photographs and movie footages of the Dalai Lama’s escape.
